Formation of Larimar Crystal

After knowing this much about the Larimar gemstone, many people have this question in their mind about how this astonishing crystal formed, so to make you understand how it is formed, here’s a brief mention below. Larimar formed when hot magma from volcanoes rose to the earth’s surface and cooled, creating cracks and cavities in the calcium-rich rock layers. Silica-rich fluids then seeped into these cavities, reacting with minerals like copper to create Larimar. It is a type of pectolite, a mineral made of calcium, sodium and acid silicate hydrate.

The copper in Larimar is what gives it its distinctive blue color. The only known source of Larimar is the Los Chupaderos mine in the Barahona province of the Dominican Republic. The tumbling action of the Bahoruco River polished the Larimar as it carried the pectolite-bearing sediments to the sea. Larimar is also considered a symbol of peace, tranquility, and love and is sought after by collectors for its white and blue patterns, sometimes speckled with black spots.
